A SOLITARY GENESIS

In the distant Summer of 2012, while still relatively new to Berlin, Julian Pallaschke was laying the groundwork of what would turn out to be a decade-long helter-skelter. Most of the album’s songs had not yet been written but its title was already set in his mind:
Take Me Back, Solace”.

After playing around in various groups and formations it simply came to the point where he had to follow the idea to lay bare a sound which was not blended, not compromised, but distilled and pure.
Little did he know what this would entail: the endless complexities and decisions, shifting scenarios and situations, often not entirely under control.

All these entanglements lead him into a new level of exploration and understanding, touching both the personal and the artistic sides of his life, with sound, money, lyrics, time, self-doubt, songs, personal struggles, relationships, all chasing each other in often frustrating and confusing patterns.

Yet, the years rolled by … and something was definitely on the move…

The formerly petrified track-list now began to take shape, lyrics got polished, gaps filled. But still the sound did not quite come together just the way Pallaschke had anticipated. Something was still missing.

Then finally in 2022, as progress was once again grinding into a halt and personal matters developed into a somewhat rough patch, here presented itself a turning point. Its name was Blacky.

Pallaschke had met him once before, years ago, and he had been immediately drawn to his ideas about music and production. To avoid falling flat on his face just as he was approaching the final hurdles of his project, Pallaschke decided to take the plunge and reached out to him, hoping to get a collaboration going on, and he struck lucky: Blacky was in!

Together they would philosophise, revise and finally carve out the landscape in which the songs could thrive and finally feel whole. Everything that had previously seemed incongruous and askew now magically converged into a single organic body of songs and music, which made sense and was faithful to the original vision of the project.

Thus, the making of “Take Me Back, Solace” is a witness of all seasons, its release a sweat-soaked milestone, and its coming into life perhaps also a starting point for new sounds to explore.
